Calling all dance teachers – you and your students have the opportunity to be part of the 2019 Arts Learning Festival closing performance.
Following the success of Ausdance Victoria’s Big Dance, we are giving teachers first access to learn the Big Dance in a workshop in November 2018, ahead of the festival.
Teachers will become the leaders of their group, allowing them to incorporate it into their curriculum in Term 1, 2019 and teach their students the Big Dance.
Teachers and their students will join Ausdance and community members to perform the Big Dance on 4 May 2019, bring the 2019 festival to close.
The Arts Learning Festival is presented by Independent Schools Victoria. The Big Dance is part of the festival’s Schools’ Program, which has more than 20 events with deep links to the curriculum. You can explore the program on the festival website.
The Big Dance is choreographed by acclaimed choreographers Frances Rings and Craig Bary, with original music by Huey Benjamin. This beautiful choreography has elements of Indigenous contemporary dance, and carries the theme of unity.
What you will get from this workshop:
- learn the Big Dance, along with ways to modify the choreography to suit all abilities
- teaching guides and notes to include Big Dance as part of your teaching plan
- professional Learning session with Ausdance Victoria’s Director of Education and Lifelong Learning, Dr Katrina Rank. In addition to a background in education and dance, Katrina works extensively within the creative aging space.
