The Power of the Pear

‘Alvida’ by John Bauer (1912)
Darkness awaits inside the pear
Will it make life better, or will it make death occur?
But the lovely scent fills the air
Biting it, she falls
The woman laughs and cackles
She’s the enemy, she’s the witch!
The girl screams, the world around her filling with crackles
Limp on the ground, her breathing slows
She gets up, she fights
The power of the pear goes zap, zap!
It hits the witch making so many bites
The witch is gone for good!
How did writing this poem make you feel?
Writing this poem made me feel happy and relaxed because it was fun to think about how to make the poem and it was very calm when I was brainstorming.
Which single line in your poem are you the absolute proudest of?
I am most proud of ‘Darkness awaits inside the pear’, because it is the first line and it is quite catchy!
Describe your poem in three words
Suspenseful, dramatic, heroic.
Where is your absolute favourite place to sit when you are brainstorming ideas?
I brainstormed my ideas in the classroom at school, but usually I like to sit by myself, or even just in a quiet space letting my imagination and thoughts wander.
What skills do you think you strengthened through writing this poem?
I think that a skill that I strengthened was using my imagination, because life isn’t just figures and facts; it’s also fun and imagination! I used my imagination a lot while I was thinking about what I could say in the poem.
Why do you think people write poetry?
I think that people write poetry to show the beauty of the world based on their perspective and make the reader think more carefully about what’s around them.
