The Butterfly’s Reflection

Basketed with life,
Yet full of woes.
Oh, glorious gluttonous grub;
Have you gotten too much to eat?
Share your nectarines, plums, and pears with her!
She’s poised there, on top of the blushing pink rose.
Oh, what a pure, graceful butterfly there;
Won’t you move just a bit?
My, my, oh yes!
You’d have nowhere to sit.
Butterfly, sickening butterfly,
Why did you choose to be different?
Beauty over nourishment.
Yes, you’re just like us,
Us foolish, imprudent, humans.
We still admire you;
We are hooligans.
There’s something we all have overlooked,
It’s the butterflies; they rely on the food they consume,
As an itty-bitty caterpillar up on the flower bloom.
It’s a psychological thriller, going days without eating.
That’s what they must go through,
To achieve their great beauty.
