Student Poetry Competition 2025 Finalist: Australia

Australia

by Ana Sharif, Cornish College
Finalist, Years 3 – 4, written poetry

Australia, it’s beautiful here

The clean sand crunching
Under my feet, waves
Crash leaving shiny
Broken shells on the
Shore. Fish swimming in
Harmony.

It’s beautiful here

My boots
Hit the damp, mossy
Ground leaving pristine
Prints, Trees reaching up
To the clouds towering
Over my head and the
Ferns just below my feet
Enriching themselves in
The fresh, minty air.

It’s beautiful over there

The yellowed grass
Basking
In the sun. My shoes
Crunch on the dead
Patches, snakes slither
With their sparkly scales
Absorbing the illuminating sun.

Australia, it’s truly beautiful over here

Anywhere
I’m grateful. For the land
The country. From the
Dusty red to the lush
Green. I’m grateful, for the
Land down under.

‘A moving ode to Australia’s natural wonders.’
