Student Poetry Competition 2025 Finalist: Flowers Bloom

Flowers Bloom

by Lorraine Senderayi, Harkaway Hills College
Finalist, Foundation – Year 2, written poetry

I have a row of flowers
Strong and tall like towers
Watering them as much as I can
You don’t know how proud I am
Poses of red, white and pink
I promise you they don’t stink
So how did the story of the flowers begin
Hang around and I’ll fill you in
First, I bought some seeds
Which looked a bit like beads
Then I put them in the soil
Which felt a bit like oil
Next, I watered them
Only hoping for a stem
One month later sprout, sprout, sprout
I was so happy I could shout
I hope that my poem about flowers bloom
Gives you a smile on a day filled with gloom.

‘A caring and sincere celebration of growth and happiness.’
