Full of Life
by Xavier Sudjono, Lysterfield Lake College
Finalist, Years 5 – 6, performance poetry
Plants sprouting around me
Light spring breeze brushing past me
Squirrels chittering
Dew drips as the early morning sun yawns
Deer prancing in the glade full of life
I see the forest animals running past me
I hear church bells ring, a gentle sound
I smell the needles of the fir tree
I can taste the dew resting on my tongue
I feel the soft grass beneath my toes
Trees waving at me in the light spring breeze
Branches a canopy of shade
Ancient oaks firmly planted,
A joyful bird song emanating from above
Children are laughing about in the glade full of life
An old man next door with no gratitude,
Complaining about the sweet dew wetting him,
Eternal rest overtaking him someday
Scared of laughter
His grave in the glade full of life
Spring’s sunshine nourishes the plants
Plants bourgeon
Rows of tulips sprout
Icebound glade restored
Now an age of happiness,
Gratified in the glade full of life.
