Student Poetry Competition 2025 Finalist: Gratitude

Gratitude

by Emily Preston, Casey Grammar School
Finalist, Years 3 – 4, written poetry

I am thankful for the things I see –
Playful friends, loving family, a sweet little bee

I am thankful for the things I hear –
Loud laughter, morning music, and waves crashing on the pier

I am thankful for the things I smell –
Fresh baked cookies, coffee in the morning, sweet flowers’ spell

I am thankful for the things I taste –
Yummy sushi, fresh air, delicious grapes I eat with haste

I am thankful for the things I touch –
Mum’s hugs, hands to hold, they all mean so much

When I use my senses every day,
Gratitude finds a joyful way.

‘A sensory-rich reflection on the power of gratitude.’
