Student Poetry Competition 2025 Finalist: Gratitude

Gratitude

by Max Cooper, Kilvington Grammar School
Finalist, Years 5 – 6, written poetry

Gratitude is hidden,
Yet can be seen anytime, anywhere,
And can be caused by anyone.

Gratitude is like a bomb,
One person ignites the fuse,
By one compliment, and then
That person helps another person,
Then another person, and another.

Gratitude has a purpose,
The purpose of appreciating the things you have,
The things that us humans don’t value too much,
Gratitude’s purpose is important,
As us humans only focus on what we don’t have.

Gratitude is hidden,
Yet can be seen,
In compliments, in words,
It is an effect, that can last forever,
Gratitude.

‘A reflective poem, both heartfelt and thought-provoking.’
