Student Poetry Competition 2025 Finalist: More in the Pan

More in the Pan

by Alison Li, Lauriston Girls’ School
Finalist, Years 3 – 4, written poetry

There’s pancakes in the kitchen,
On top of the pan
I can’t wait to eat
Mum gives me one, it looks very sweet
I dance with joy and spins around
With the plate balanced on my head
‘Be careful!
You might drop it.’ Said mum
If I do drop it, there’s more in the pan
Suddenly I crash into someone.
It was Gran!
Up above I heard the pancake drop.
It landed with a splat.
I ran to the kitchen, but to my surprise
Dad scoffed the lot!

‘A playful, vibrant poem that captures the joyful chaos of a family kitchen.’
