Small Moments
by Manon MacNeill, Harkaway Hills College
Finalist, Years 5 – 6, performance poetry
We feel caught up in the constant rush
Worrying, moving, constantly moving.
We forget to be quiet and listen and watch
We can’t see things that should matter.
There is magic in the quiet.
There is peace in still moments.
We can look above, then below, then around
And remember to be grateful for the small moments.
I look up and see shadows covering the brightness of the sky,
Shadowing the burning sun in a moment.
Glittering stars decorate the sky
And there! The moon! In peace he’ll lie.
Some seek the the morning sun and find gratitude there,
But no not I, I seek the night sky.
I am grateful for the smaller moments in my day,
All I need to do is look above.
It costs me nothing, just a simple look above.
So remember, it will cost you nothing
To look above, below and around you.
Look for the hidden, the unseen, the ignored,
And there you may find gratitude and peace.
In small moments.
