Student Poetry Competition 2025 Finalist: The Sky

The Sky

by Avery Jacoby, Woodleigh School
Finalist, Years 5 – 6, performance poetry

The Sky
The Stars
The moon
A sun that makes things bloom
Autumn goes
Winter comes
The sky controls that too
No one thinks to appreciate
The effort the sky puts in
Sometimes they can forget
The sky is even a thing

Clouds rise
Angels sing
I love everything
From the sunny days
To the rainy nights
It makes me who I am
By waking me up
Putting me to sleep
It is what we want to keep
The sun comes out
The moon goes in
because we don’t control a thing

Autumn is orange and leafy
Spring is pink and calm
Winters blue and cold
Summers yellow and warm
We should love the sky for what it does
The sky is there to look out
And talk about
The sky is always there
From the dark nights
To sunny days
You don’t have to beware

Some may say it rains cats and dogs
But really that’s just rain pouring
Sometimes you may find the Sky boring
But we should love the warm sun that always burns your face
To the lovely pour of rain
The sun is like a heat generator on hot and steamy days
The moon keeps us cool at night and during our sleep

The sky is called blue by most, but really its just white
I promise that I don’t want to start a fight
But to be honest it is the truth

The sky
The stars
The moon
A sun that makes things bloom
The sky
