Japan
by Kysen Ravago, Hume Anglican Grammar
Winner, Years 5 β 6, written poetry
Mount Fuji stands tall
Tea steams in a silent room
Zen within each sip
Petals drift downstream
The koi swim beneath the waves
Time moves like water
Lanterns softly glow
Crickets chirp in silent streets
Moonlight painted shrines
Grill sizzles at night
Yakitori kissed by flames
Laughter fills the streets.
βAn evocative sequence of haiku capturing the soul of Japan with remarkable sensitivity and grace.β
