‘Apples’ by Ambroży Sabatowski (1917)
The September sky cast a golden light over the trees
As I rest beneath the trunk
I stare up into the ombre sky
Shedding blues, pinks and oranges onto the horizon
Then my eyes find a single red apple
Sparkling like crystal
A ruby red diamond
A contrast to the sky
It stood there in the silence
Blood amongst the leaves
Dead amongst the trees
