Student Poetry Competition 2026 Finalist: Into The Wind

Into The Wind

by Jensen May, Woodleigh School
Years 5 – 6 Performance Poetry Finalist

A seed so helpless and very small

Has fantasies of one day being strong and tall

He waits and waits to grow

However, it is terribly slow

Days,

months,

years pass

Dreams shatter just like glass

But just when he thought all hope was lost

Left behind was every shadow ever cast

Larger and larger and larger he grew

He was ripe for the picking

Who knew?

Suddenly,

he felt not so great

He sighed as he said,

“It’s much too late…”

The strength he once had felt utterly diminished,

He accepted,

his journey would soon be finished.

And as his time sadly came to an end

A seed blew from him and into the wind
