Paintbrush and Me
by Ellie Dimech, Mentone Grammar

A little blob of moist, blue paint
Decorates the surface of the canvas;
That’s me, Hi!
A dot as small as a blueberry, the fluorescent colour of the sea.
The strands of an old paintbrush tickle me.
Spreading me wider.
Some colours overlap me;
Some blend in.
The excitement of being part of something big envelopes me
Making me feel overjoyed.
The anticipation of becoming who I’m meant to be;
The curiosity of what I am made for.
A clearer path builds in my way
Pushing me onwards into the great unknown.
Every one brush stroke is different;
Each tiny detail changing the picture completely.
Once it’s done you can never go back.
Calmed and relieved
The artist lays the paintbrush down to rest
I am complete.
