Terms and Conditions – Student Film Festival

Independent Schools Victoria’s Student Film Festival celebrates learning across the curriculum through the exciting and dynamic medium of short film.

 

Through film, students can tell stories, investigate ideas, document learning in any area of study and express the complexity of their thinking through a range of genres and technical approaches.

 

With the creative use of digital media, students can integrate their personal perspectives to explore the diverse and challenging issues of our time.

 

It’s open to all Victorian students, across all sectors.

Key Dates
  • Student Film Festival entries open on Thursday 5 June 2025.
  • Entries close on Thursday 28 August 2025.
  • Finalists will be published on out Arts Learning Festival Website and have their films shown at ACMI on Tuesday 21 October 2025. Winners for each category will be announced on the night.
Eligibility
  • To enter the Student Film Festival, you must be a Foundation to Year 12 student currently enrolled in a Victorian school.
  • Films submitted must be original works created by individual student film makers or as a class project.
  • Films submitted cannot exceed 10 minutes.
  • Students may enter as many films as they like.
What are the Student Film Festival categories?
  • Early Years: Prep–Year 2
  • Junior Years: 3–6
  • Middle Years: 7–10
  • Year 11
  • Year 12.
Copyright
  • Films submitted must not infringe upon anyone’s copyright. Films deemed to be works of plagiarism will be disqualified
  • Any music used in the film must either be accessed through royalty-free sources or be original music created by the student. The copyright source must be provided in the submission form.
  • If students are using music from other sources, they must provide evidence of permission granted by all writers of music, lyrics, performers and publishers for any recording used.
  • Copyright of the film remains with the student.

  • Broadcast standard:NTSC
  • Aspect ratio:16:9
  • Size:HD (1920 x 1080 pixels)
  • Video codec:H264
  • Bitrate:10Mbps or higher
  • Audio:1kHz/16bit minimum
  • Format:.mp4
Judging and Prizes
  • All films will be judged by a panel from ISV, including representatives from ACMI.
  • We will only be disclosing de-identified information to our external judging panel, so entries are judged anonymously.
  • Prizes will be awarded on the night for creative and technical expertise in each year level category, as well as an overall People’s Choice award.
  • Judging decisions are final.
Where will shortlisted films be shown?
  • Finalists’ films will be parts of a showcase at an in-person screening at ACMI on Tuesday 21 October 2025.
  • Finalists’ films will be published on our Arts Learning Festival Website
  • Snippets from winning films may be used across our social media channels.
Privacy Policy

If you check the yes box in our submission form, you give ISV and its partners permission to show your film at the screening at ACMI, publish your film on our Arts Learning Festival website, and share snippets of your film on our social media channels and external communications. Surnames of students will not be published on social media.
