About the Student Poetry Competition 2025

The Student Poetry Competition is presented by Independent Schools Victoria, as part of its Arts Learning program.

Now in its sixth year, the 2025 Student Poetry Competition is open to students from Foundation to Year 12 from any school across Victoria.

As in previous years, students are invited to submit original poems on any topic, with an optional theme offered as inspiration. This year’s theme is gratitude - a chance to reflect on what it means to appreciate, acknowledge and express thanks through poetry.

In 2024, the competition received a record-breaking 850 entries, totalling more than 100,000 words. Many of the winning poems explored the theme of awe, showcasing the creativity and insight of young writers across the state.
